Adventure Learning at the 2007 AECT International Convention

Dating back to 1923, long before the Internet... the computer... the VCR...even the overhead projector (!) the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) is the oldest 'professional' home in its field - esteemed for its continues promotion of the highest standards in both scholarship and in practice.

GoNorth! team member and program director Aaron Doering is bringing adventure learning to the 2007 AECT Fall convention: "Learning Within the Kaleidoscope: A Culture of Technology" - competing in the AECT Design and Development Division Showcase with the adventure learning showcase "Designing and Developing an Adventure Learning Program for Millions of Students Worldwide." The Design and Development Division Showcase seeks to showcase innovative training and educational programs that are grounded in theory and research, to enhance the ability of the field to design effective learning experiences and develop innovative instructional materials and environments. The display will be in session Wednesday October 24 from 8:15 - 12:15.

Thursday, October 25th (11:45 AM - 1:00 PM) the affordances of adventure learning is presented in the session "Adventure Learning: Educational, social, and technological affordances for collaborative hybrid distance education." Within hybrid environments, designers habitually attempt to replicate traditional classroom pedagogy resulting in experiences that do not support or afford meaningful collaboration. With the presentation of this paper Aaron and co-authors Charles Miller, and George Veletsianos will detail the educational, social, and technological affordances for the effective design, implementation, and research of adventure learning environments, providing insight for teachers, teacher/designers, and future teacher/adventurers!
