Polar Husky World Our Food

When you work this hard, you have to eat well. And we do! In the summer, we eat regular dry dog food, with an occasional bone to chew on. We start eating fat and meat as the weather gets colder.

On the expedition, we get gourmet, high-quality food. It's called “Red Paw" and designed specifically for what we do. Each chunk weighs between one and two pounds and is high in fat, giving us between 4500 and 6000 calories a day - and it tastes great!

So now we are just about ready to head out on the trail. How we get there - to our starting point - is either by ship, airplane, helicopter, or truck. When we drive, the Team puts our boxes on the bed of the truck. As crazy as it sounds, we really like going for rides in the dog truck, because it usually means we're going somewhere new. Sometimes we fly by plane or helicopter to the starting point. We each have our own box with straw where we can lie down, sit up, turn around, and relax ... then off we go! To dogsled into the sunset ...
