Polar Husky A to Z

The Inuits have been building Inuksuits for thousands of years throughout the northern Canadian landscape.

Inuksuit

They are rock formations that serve a variety of purposes. Generally speaking, inuksuits are unique figures of stone that are erected to mark high points of land, indicate good hunting areas, and serve as a guide to provide a safe way home. Some have been known to simply show the way to a path, and others have been erected in the memory of someone. Each inuksuit is made from local stones and is unique.
To the Inuit people, they provide a symbol of trust and reassurance for those who have traveled across the vast Arctic.

There is some spiritual meaning with inuksuits, as well. To the Inuit people, they provide a symbol of trust and reassurance for those who have traveled across the vast Arctic. Because they have, for centuries, served as guides for travelers, pointing them to the safest passages on land and water, the inuksuit, according to Inuit culture, acts as a reminder of our dependence on one another and the value of strong relationships.
