The dogs are owned by Paul and Mille. They are responsible for them 100% of the time and they live with them at Expedition Basecamp in Michigan.
If you own the dogs, does that mean they lived with you, or are you just resposible for them?

Yes! They do get trained.
When the puppies are old enough to start running they run with the team on training runs, but not in their harnesses. We watch carefully for characteristice the puppies display while running and decide where to put them in the team based on where and how they run. At this point, when they are ready to be harnessed next to an older dog, that older Polar Husky teaches them everything they need to know.
Do the puppies get trained? How do the puppies learn how to get ready for a trip?
Murphy & Kiana

Missouri
No. They are both from long lines of traditional Arctic Breeds. Polar Huskies and the Chukchi dogs love the cold, love the snow, and love to pull.
Is there a big difference between Paul and Mille's dogs and the dogs that the Chukchi are using?

Just like house-dogs like to hunt or chase rabbits and squirrels, Polar Huskies also have an instinct to hunt. They enjoy chasing after Caribou. It is also this instinct that helps them to protect us from Polar Bears. As you know, Timber is really good at this and Good Thunder is learning how to warn us about Polar Bears too. (that is as close as they ever get to hunting)
Do the dogs ever try to hunt?
