There are a lot of publications that show air pollution has declined over the past 20-30 years. This is due to better control and monitoring of the emissions from industry and business along with building automobiles the run cleaner. Some of the pollutants that are regulated are particulate (or very fine ash) in the air, carbon monoxide, and sulfur. These are all bad for the environment.

Has pollution decreased or increased over the past few years?

E85 is a blend of 85% ethanol with 15% gasoline. It takes much less energy to produce ethanol than gasoline! Ethanol production will give you 130%-177% more energy than the energy it takes to produce it; this includes the fertilizer to grow the corn, fuel to plant, harvest, and haul the corn to the ethanol plant, and the energy to convert the corn to ethanol. On the other hand, it takes about 20% more energy to produce a gallon of gasoline than the energy it contains.

Does it take to much energy to produce E85?

Riding a bike is a good idea, I also ride a bike or walk whenever I can. There are many studies done that show cars that use ethanol produce lower emissions...the good news is that many of today’s cars are designed to omit less emissions.

We try to walk or ride bicycles whenever possible, but when we do need to drive cars what can we do to lower emissions?

Much like people, the weather does greatly effect the moods of our Polar Huskies.

For starters, they typically don't like rain. They also don't like it when it gets terribly hot. They tend to get tired and cranky when it is hot and humid.

They do love the cold weather. They know that snowfall means they will get to pull the sled much in the same way they know that a week-long drive in the dogtruck means we are going on a trip!

When we are out on the trail, they enjoy the cold temperatures of the Arctic. If there are storms the result in us needing to stay where we are for a day or two and not travel, they will just curl up in a ball and patiently wait it out.

Depending on the weather do the dogs' behavior change?

With the exception of Timber, we have had all of our dogs since birth. We are very close with them and they are very close with us. We consider them to be part of our family.

Much like you can tell when you brother or sister, mother or father are upset, sad, scared, or nervous...the Polar Huskies can tell when we are feeling those same emotions too. They have a great deal of trust in us and will follow our instructions and directions on which way to go.

If we become scared or nervous, we need to be very careful about how we let those feelings show...we could end up with 22 scared Polar Huskies and depending on the situation, that could make things worse.

As long as we're not scared... they're not scared.

At what times do the dogs get nervous or frightend?

Ginger is one of our dogs who gets along with every person and every dog she meets. She is a gentle giant (she is one of biggest females) who loves attention. During Week 4 she was one of our Polar Husky Superstars.

Have you followed Ginger's tour of Polar Husky World?

Is Ginger as nice as she looks?

Much like people teach their dogs to sit, stay, lay-down and rollover, we teach the Polar Huskies commands that tell them to go to the right, go to the left, stop, stay on the trail, etc.

If you watch the movie: Teacher Explorer 2007, you can hear Paul telling Disko commands about which direction to go at the very end of it.

How do you direct the dogs in the correct direction?
