Questions & Answers Week 04
Every week Team GoNorth! answers ten questions related to the module topic from student explorers -- so stay tuned and submit YOUR questions!
All of us at Team GoNorth! think it's very important to travel! Going to new places is unbelievably interesting, very rewarding, and creates memories that you will have for the rest of your life.
Seeing all kinds of new things, places, and people can also change your world. You might discover a new food you love, or learn about a place's history that is really fascinating to you. You might learn to see people who are different from you as people who would be really interesting to get to know, instead of avoiding them. So traveling makes you more open to trying new things, which makes you more tolerant! Neat!
You have traveled to many places. Do you think it is important to travel?

What a great question! Polar Huskies—just like people—come in all kinds of colors (with all kinds personalities, sizes, likes and dislikes...)!
After surveying Team GoNorth!, it seems that we all would like to be whatever color we were born with. After all, all of the Polar Huskies are important, and they are all different. But they still all try to get along with each other and to do their jobs as part of a team, despite their differences.
So whether it's fur we're talking about here or something else, we like the traits we are born with and try to use our strengths to make our world better!
If you were a Polar Husky, what color would you be?

Someone who is tolerant keeps an open mind to other people and experiences. It means getting to know other people for the gifts and skills that they bring to our world and getting to know other cultures for all that they have to offer.
We all have things about us that are different—whether it's the way we look, our food, music we like, the way we dance, the language that we speak, the clothes we wear, the art we think is beautiful, the stories we enjoy, the traditions we observe, the celebrations we join in, the religion we practice—or whatever! A tolerant person accepts those differences without a problem. He or she may not like the food you eat or the way you dress, but it does not cause them problem to at least be around you.
How would you describe someone that is tolerant?

Tolerance is a growing issue as our world experiences ever-increasing globalization—this means we are all sharing more and more things together, all around the world.
We see so much more diversity now that we have to become more tolerant if we are going to succeed at life together in the 21st century. If we don't, our world will not thrive, grow, and change for the better.
So we must learn that although we have our own identity, that other identities are just as interesting and just as valuable. In this way, we can experience the positive aspects of diversity rather than be afraid of it, making the world a better place for everyone.
It seems like the subject of tolerance is becoming more and more important. Why?

Without a doubt, our favorite part of exploring is meeting new people, experiencing new cultures, and learning lots!
It is so cool to meet new people who live in a way that is completely different from us. It is fascinating to see how they live their lives!
And although everything is so different when we experience new people, their language, food, traditions, and everything else about their amazing culture, we realize that, despite all the differences, we are all really more alike than we sometimes realize. Some of us may live in a portable, round house made out of sealskin and some of us may live in the city and have never even been camping—but we all need food, shelter, hope, and love. So this helps us be even more tolerant, accepting, and welcoming of new people and experiences!
What is your favorite part of the expedition?
